Exploring Digital Space-Time in the city
Abstract
Temporality infuses the logics and processes of the digital economy. Nowhere is this more apparent than in the smart city. This lecture will chart how the digital is reconfiguring space-time, map the temporalities of smart cities and detail the various ways in which smart cities mediate and are mediated by temporal relations, rhythms and modalities. It argues that the space-times of the smart city are multiple, heterogeneous, contingent and dynamic, and that more needs to be done to understand their implications for urban society and economy.
