Fourth annual symposium on regulation of AI from a European perspective
This AI Lund symposium on The EU AI Act in Context: Implementation, Interaction, and Global Developments explores the evolving legal landscape of artificial intelligence, with particular emphasis on the EU’s new AI Act and its broader regulatory context.
Bringing together scholars, practitioners, and policymakers, this symposium will examine current developments in the implementation of the AI Act, its interaction with other regulatory frameworks, and comparative perspectives from major global jurisdictions. The event aims to inform dialogue and discussion on the future of AI governance in Europe and beyond.
The symposium is part of an annual series on AI regulation organised by AI Lund, most recently in October 2025.

The programme will be divided into three inter-related sessions:
- Current Developments under the EU AI Act
Implementation challenges, emerging guidance, and the current status of European Commission’s proposed Omnibus amendments. - The AI Act in the Broader Regulatory Ecosystem
Interplay with GDPR, the Digital Services Act, fundamental rights, and other relevant legal frameworks. - Comparative AI Regulation: Global Approaches
Developments in the United States, China, and the United Kingdom, and their implications for transnational governance.
Confirmed speakers
Confirmed speakers include
- Dr. Jonas Ledendal (Lund University), who will present on recent EU legal and policy developments in artificial intelligence, including the Digital Omnibus initiative and its implications for the ongoing review of key elements of the AI Act and the GDPR;
- Dr. Daniel Sprick (University of Cologne), who will offer insights into the regulation of AI in China from a global governance perspective;
- Associate Professor Dr. Béatrice Schütte (University of Lapland), who will address key issues at the intersection of AI and liability; and Dr. Sue Anne Teo (Lund University), who will explore critical questions relating to AI and human rights.
