AI Competence for Sweden

- A national initiative on education and competence development in artificial intelligence

AI Competence for Sweden is a network of 7 Swedish universities providing life-long learning in the area of AI and Machine Learning. Apart from Lund University, the network includes KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Örebro University, Chalmers University of Technology, University of Gothenburg, Linköping University and Umeå University.

The Swedish government has declared that Sweden should be the leader in taking advantage of the opportunities that the use of AI can provide, with the aim of strengthening both the national welfare and the economic competitiveness. The need for in-depth knowledge of artificial intelligence (AI) is high in the labor market as well as in the rest of the society.

Therefore, the government financed the AI Competence network to develop courses for professionals who can further contribute to the Swedish development in the area of AI. This effort shall build on or supplement ongoing initiatives in the field and promote the use of AI both in the business and public sectors. It is expected to further improve the overall quality and efficiency of the provided services.

The overall objectives of AI Competence for Sweden can be summarised as follows:

  • Educate the workforce and provide opportunities for tech skill development through an easy-to-navigate course platform
  • Unite and Coordinate the AI education development efforts and initiatives of multiple Swedish universities
  • Engage the public and academia representatives in a mutual conversation about AI

With the help of the formal partnership, both parties get a chance to enhance their education development endeavors and ultimately reach a larger group of people.
